The Dorthy Frances Rice Sanctuary for Wildlife offers abundant hiking opportunities for visitors. After parking on a sharp corner on South Road in Peru, hikers can walk a quarter mile to the center of the sanctuary trail network. From here, you can take a number of different trails to explore the forests that cover the sanctuary. Highlights include a set of beaver ponds, where you can see how industrious the beavers can be. There is also a distant view to the southwest overlooking Peru. Trails are well maintained and provide a pleasant experience in the summer for hiking as well as in the winter for snowshoeing and skiing.
