Lower Spectacle Pond
Otis State Forest
Sandisfield, MA
Hunting | Fishing | Canoe/Kayak/SUP
Upper Spectacle Pond provides a wilderness-type experience for boaters in the Berkshires. Paddlers who enjoy canoes, kayaks, or stand-up paddle boards can enjoy a two-mile paddle around the forested shore. In June, the shore is pink, with mountain laurel in full bloom around the entire shore. Motorboaters can also enjoy the small lake of 53 acres. While fishing is possible, a general lack of game fish discourages anglers. Parking is available at the dam on Webb Road; however, visitors are encouraged to have four-wheel drive vehicles to access the lake. Cartop and electric motors only are allowed. Gas powered motors are not allowed.
Access is via Cold Spring Road to Webb Road, or Route 23 to Upper Spectacle POnd Road to webb Road. Roads close to the pond are not maintained in the winter.
